The company responsible for Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering — Wizards of the Coast — is working on Archetype Entertainment. The game developer of the new game studio will be spearheaded by none other than former BioWare veterans Chad Robertson and James Ohlen.
Formerly lead designer and creative director on BioWare Austin, Robertson will be vice president and studio general manager at Archetype Entertainment. The responsibility of head of studio falls on Ohlen, who was announced to be affiliated with Wizards of the Coast back in April last year. As lead designer and creative director on BioWare, he has been responsible for numerous game classics the likes of Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate.
As with any RPG, Archetype's project debut is planned to be set in a sci-fi realm. It is up to the players how to proceed in the game, making a vast array of choices which will drastically affect the path they take in the game. It is to be noted that the realm is outside of DnD and Magic lore, thus making Archetype Entertainment a standalone venture though with definite similarities.
