Critical Role is now officially a part of Dungeons & Dragons after its inclusion in the newest adventure, Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus!

Critical Role is a popular American web series which comprises of multiple actors playing Dungeons & Dragons. It is streamed every Thursday on Critical Role's official Twitch channel and stars popular actors such as Joe Manganiello, Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, etc.

The show caught eyes very quickly and most fans of D&D became regular followers of it as well. This hype was noticed by Wizards of the Coast as they have decided to include bits of the show in its newest adventure which is now up for pre-order.

Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus is about a journey through the infamous Baldur's Gate into Avernus, the first layer of nine hells. The primary task of the adventure is to help the city of Baldur's Gate from sinking into the pits of hell all of which is completed in 13 levels.

Critical Role makes its way in the adventure thanks to Arkhan the Cruel (played by Joe Manganiello) who is a Dragonborn Oathbreaker Paladin and is helping free the imprisoned dragon goddess, Tiamat. Similar to Critical Role, Joe also helped in writing the adventure which tells us that there will be plenty of easter eggs for fans of the show.

Baldur's Gate: Descent Into Avernus will release on September 17th, 2019. However, it is available for pre-order on Amazon.

  1. Hardly.
Arkhan is an established character from Force Grey, who happened to cross over into the Vox Machina timeline. He is not a CR-created character, but one that had background and motives well before featuring on CR.
It is, if anything, a NOD to Critical Role as Arkhan is in possession of the Hand of Vecna which he gained in Tal’dorei.

But this isn’t CR being in a main WOTC publication.
And also it’s not like they don’t have their own official campaign guide published by WOTC.

And lastly, can we talk about using SUCH an old cast photo? Literally one of the oldest? It still has Acaba in it, for crying out loud.

  2. Wow what a terrible article. You fail to mention even one of the actual core cast but apparently “stars popular actors” who were guests for a couple of episode 2 years ago. How about giving credit to the actual creatives behind the show?
