Local Tielfling Accomplishes Happy Ending Speedrun by Accident

TL;WR: Necromancer gets his happy ending learning from an archmage.

Be me: Quill Penn, 6th level Necromancer (though a biochemist in his of hearts, because science is the business of wizards, while spellcasting is just something we do for kicks)

Be not me: five other PCs: Koko, Derien, Marina, and two others

Quill basically joins a Rime of the Frostmaiden campaign in medias res as I audit the table at my local Adventurers’ League, to see what tabletop looks like in practice; the fact that I was broke like a joke at the time—and one of the players had a spare pregen—is irrelevant.  That session, there was a hero’s festival for slaying a dragon, Marina (one of the PCs) and I attempt  some independent research on what little info on the Frostmaiden  wasn’t redacted harder than  a drunken rant at the SCP Foundation, I got some, and we headed to another town the next day.  There, we accepted a quest to rescue the Alcatraz’d captain of a mayor’s guard, headed north, fought a coup of Remorazes (which I audited with a phantasmal force and a hypnotic pattern(, and that was that.

Couple of irl weeks later, and the party’s on a frozen ship, with an angry white dragon ridden by a mummified wizard!  Marina and Darian get away after killing three baby kobolds, while Coco almost gets close enough to safely annoy the dragon, but bites it after 82 blizzard damage, two death save successes, a fail, and a crit fail.  One other talks the dragon into sparing it (which is apparently draconic for “a quick death”—a death that would’ve been prevented has the dragon not crit-saved against my hypnotic pattern.

So there’s just me, myself, the dragon, and her mummified wizardly rider, archmage THEREZOND!  Somehow—and even if I weren’t on the spectrum, I still wouldn’t know how—Quill managed to get into “Therazond’s” internship program.  Okay, I lied.  I know exactly how I did it: two Animate Deads on two of the dead kobolds, and a hint of fanboy giddiness that I swear was supposed to be tactical brownnosing!  Hell, I had plans for this guy, but before I knew it, Quill was exiting stage left with an archmage to his left, two bouncing baby zombie kobolds to his right, and an ancient dragon beneath his feet.  What will Quill’s ultimate fate be?  Will the rest of the party save Icewind Dale?  Find out next time on Dragonball Z!
