Dnd story time. I was only in the second session of end ever and I had rolled up a bard to suit the party's needs. The DM had rolled up a fight with three CR8 frost giants and a CR3 giant wolf thing. He wanted us to run from the encounter because it would likely result in a TPK if we fought them at level 5. My bard ended up falling a slight of hand and initiated combat where we all assumed we were completely boned but I ended up using a combination of Hypnotic Pattern and Crown of Madness to allow us to take on the giants one at a time. While our paladin, barb and rogue somehow all managed crits during the fight. Somehow we defeated the giants with the loss of only one NPC and found some incredibly over-levelled loot as a bonus.
