How I Created my First Broken DnD Character

How I accidentally created a Broken character for a one shot that went nowhere.

Hey everyone,

Geoffrey again with another story, this time about a one shot character that was by accident pretty broken for a one shot one of my friends was running.

So a while back one of the members of the D&D group wanted to DM a one shot, they gave the following rules for Characters, Level 30, Up to +3 Magic Items, no legendary Items and we can have up to 10 Viles of Healing potions.

My group was pretty secrative when it came to Character creation, and found it more fun to wait until we start to reveal what we came up with, I decided to have some fun with my Character after listening to the story of Bonzly the sad Clown on an other D&D story channel, I decied to make a Character that would mess with the DM's plans a bit.

So I rolled a Human Level 20 Bard/Level 10 Rouge and as I leveled up I took Skills that would help me with exploration and doungen crawling, while taking several assist and healing spells just in case things went south.

On our first day we introduced our Characters, and I decided to go Last for fun.

My Charater was a human who went by the Name 'Rusty Nails' no one knew his real name, and he Had rusty red Hair that was a mess, Creepy unkempt Clown makeup, a tattered faded Overcoat that once was bright and colourful, tattered and faded Pants and Old faded clown shoes.

The way I roleplayed him was a Happy go lucky Jokester who had a DARK sence of humor, but was trusted with people he worked with, but the Table was wondering how I would Roleplay him, so under the Table I had my Cellphonme with a Page of Dark jokes open and the Following conversation took place.

Player: "Hey Rusty, how have you been?"

Rusty: "Oh great, Monday I was digging a hole in my garden and I found a chest filled with gold, I turned to tell my Wife about it but then remembered why I was digging the hole in the first place."

The Table was dead silent with the DM grinning as if I had done something great, so then I followed up with the following.

Rusty: "Oh and the other day I saw this young Elf on the street living in a Box begging for money, I asked if I could take her home and she lit right up and sais yes, though her tone changed when I took her box…"

The players all went wide eyed, the Dm had a big grin on his face, and so the session started, we had a party of mainly heavy hitters, A fighter, Barbarian and Ranger and I was the only real magic user.

The party was taken from town and magically brought to a Labaryth that we had to survive, our fighter took the leader role, and I was support, which was fine by me, as this was how I built my Character.

When we entered the Labarynth, the Dm tells us all to make Perception checks, and although one member got a nat 1, the next highest was a 22, I asked if I could use my passive to make it fair to everyone else, he said No and told me to roll.

Me: Okay… *Rolls* Okay I rolled a 12 on Die and with my Perception bonus thats a… 41, what do I see?

DM/Other Players: WHAT?! THERE IS NO WAY YOUR BONUS IS THAT HIGH?!

Me: I mean my perception bonus is only 29….

DM: …Oh sweet jesus…

I saved the Party from triggering a deadly Trap, so the party was happy for that, the DM glared at me as I smiled, we were all having fun.

Next section we had to sealth to avoid being seen by possible hostal enemies, Ranger casts Pass without a trace on the Party to help our rolls.

Dm: Okay Rusty what is your stealth roll?

Me: I'm now one with the cosmos….

DM: HOW?!

Me: well I got a Nat 20 on my roll plus Pass without a trace and with my bonus my stealth total is 61…

DM: BULLSHIT!!!

The other players gathered around my character sheet as well as the DM and they looked at my bonus' and they all went wide eyed.

Due to the levels I gained as a Bard and Rogue I got SEVERAL profecincy bonus' to my skills, and I can add half my profecency bonus to checks I'm not profecent on…

I kept my spell list hidden, so no one saw what I had in store for combat, but it was clear that I was now on point, and the only thing that could end me was the all dreaded nat 1.

So to break it down, my skill Bonus' were as followed:

Athletics: +9

Acrobatics: +31
Sleight of hand: +31
Stealth +31

Arcana: +30
History: +10
Investigation: +30
Nature: +10
Religion: +10

Animal Handling: +9
Insight: +29
Medicine: +9
Perception: +29
Survival: +16

Deception: +31
Intimidation: +11
Performance +18
Persuation: +11

In combat I took the defensive dulest feat so I could add my +13 Profeciency bonus to my already disgusting 23 AC as a reaction because I was useing a finesse weapon.

The DM was impressed by how my character perfromed in Combat as I was not only hard to hit, but was also tricky on the battlefield able to support anyone who needed it, but also faking the enemy out, we didn't get a chance to rest, so I didn't use my spells yet, but because I could have an extra 6 spells from any class my spell list was FILLED with Fun spells that I was prepared to use either in Combat or Help the party.

After a few sessions, and when Covid hit we could not continue the campain, and I told the DM and my friends Rusty's spell list and everyone both Loved and Hated the spells I gave him.

The players and the DM asked me what I had planned if things went south for the party and I replied with "well if things went south badly I would wish for the party to be restored to full and continue the fight."

The DM said "well what If I messed with the wish?"

I shrugged and sais "well then I would have sais that the Rusty that was sent on the mission was a clone and the real Rusty was still alive somewhere else.

After looking at my stats and abilities we determined that the second option was the better of the two.
