How I pulled the hiest of the century with out the rest of the party knowing

My Tabxi ranger/bard pulled off the coolest almost impossible heist by herself using my college degree.

Hi everyone, my story is one I could only believe because I actually pulled it off. When the rest of the party found out the DM and I had to show them the proof.

So some back story here my Tabaxi Ranger Faye’Ra has always been a bit of a Rouge, in the way that she likes money more then most people, and her signature golden cat engraved bow was stolen in my first session… Ever. Our Rouge, Rayne plays more of a ranger in that she’s from the forest, is a hurmet and never talks even tho she was voted leader of our group. The rest of the cast is Nuhrren the half or druid who is so lawful sometimes it hurts. Afdani the ditzy 40 year old wizard who likes to put her face on things. Mimi the aunt of our fallen cleric who is a life cleric herself and damn good at her job. And Sven the warfordge monk who really got the raw end of the deal on this one.

Our dm is very RAW. And was running this campaign to be most of our first real long running campaigns and does an amazing job. At the beginning he told me and the rouge that in order to get money for stolen items you have to get in good with the local Theives guild… Who happens to be a bunch of wear rats that we accidentally killed their leader but then time went wonky. Needless to say thst they don’t like us very much. Accept my character, who used to kill people for money but Faye wasn’t really aloud out of the party’s sight for some foolish things that went down…. That’s a story for another day.

So when after a few months of playing and failing to get into the fight club to talk to the bosses of the Theives guild I finally got a lead. The task was a simple heist, steal a very valuable potion from the local apothecary. Faye’Ra could bearly keep from dulling, she had a bag of holding filled with priceless artwork valued over 10,000 gold. But being with such goodie goodies had its negatives. Only Rayne knew of the offered heist.

So as we were gearing up to take the fight for our lovely city to the local cultists and save you know… The world. I saw an opportunity for my heist. Faye’Ra gives a rousing speach about needing to gear up and get health potions and Maybe ne some special ones like invisibility or heroism… And they all fall for it.

While the DM is roll playing the heck out of the dragon born shop keep Faye’Ra wanders around the shop, any time there was a lul in the rp I would have my character ask what she was looking at on the shelves, check out the security systems… Try and figure out how to get the weird fancy door opened, you know normal things. My party started to get real suspicious of what I was up to. When I tried to open the weird door and the alarm system did indeed go off. Two golums came out of the wall and after me.

Faye’Ra being the smooth cat she is… Shouted “I was just looking for the bathroom!”

DM laughs and says roll deception… Nat 1…. Of course. So he thought this was a clever lie and my party would punish me enough just has the golums push me out the door and rough me up. A bit… And then my beautiful Tabxi with all the class in the world pisses in her armor… Lesson learned breaking in will. Not work.

After the battle and several sessions go by including meeting the mayor of the city we just saved I came up with the best plan ever.

Our dm loved it when I would make art work or props for him. I went to college for theater tech and my favorite things to do was make props for anything and everything.

So the plan was simple. I actually made a document signed by the mayor telling the apothecary to hand over the potion to the Sentinels of Equilibrium. Our newly established heros guild in the city. Because eeee there was a threat on town because Theives were going to try and take the potion and if they couldn’t take it they would light the building on fire. Because of all the dangerous and flammable stuff in the shop he was worried the whole town would end up going with it.

I even put a wax seal on the document. The problem was that the apothecary had already seen me doing hood rat stuff in her store as it would be known in the party… But why would I have to be the one to give her the letter.

My ranger bard, took the actor feat which aloud you to mimic any voice and also has a hat of discise… The plan was made.

So I asked Sven to run to the apothecary with me while everyone else was busy preping for our trip to avernus, told them it would be real. Quick, we would just get what the party needed. Sven agreed and sense it wasn’t just me, everyone else said it would be fine. Sven thought we were going to do some hood rat stuff and was very excited. So we get there almost. The general good store is across the street, I told sven I wanted to get everyone somthing for the trip And suprise everyone. Told him just to wait so he can be suprised too.

I went in the store and walked around the building. Our dm always makes us leave the room when we arnt in the area in the game… So I had to tell him the plan. And I waited right outside the room and listened so I would know excatly what my character did.

Faye’Ra went in the back of the store turned into the mayor and ran right into Sven. Got really excited and told him about the threat on the down, gave him the documentation and told him not to wait just to go get the potion.

So sven runs in the apothecary, hands over the letter that is steal sealed and our dm played it perfectly, the apothecary freaks out shows him the letter and she goes and gets the potion out of the vault, that could have only been opened with a claw like the vault the sorcerer stone was in, in the first Harry Potter book/movie. She hands the potion over just as Faye is walking up the steps sven walks out and tells me everything. I offered to take the potion and put it in the “Faye’Ra bag” which was a bag of holding she sewed inside the top part of her armor.

Sven goes into our guild hall and tells everyone what just happened…. And we all have a debate on what to do with this crazy dangerous potion. No one knows that I kept nice and quite and only said that I would hold on to it. Everyone agreed and then we ran off to avernus to save our dead friends.

When we got back I had to return the potion to the apothecary because the buyer of the potion came to collect and all my “not my problem” ideas were tossed out the window by our goodie goodie guild members.

Before we did that tho my character had a bit of a change of heart and got frusterated that the druid never trusted her and told everyone the truth about how we came to possess the potion in the first place…. They were not pleased and Svens player was pretty hurt by being tricked by a player and the DM.

It took a while for the rest of the party to trust my character again. Realy it was selling all my magical loot and using all my money to buy an orphanage for all the kids who lost their parents in the fight with the cultists for that to happen. I also kept that a secret till the mortgage payments became an issue.

That’s a story for another time

But now everyone in our group still thinks that’s the lowest and coolest thing I have ever done and I’m not sure I can top that. I even dm another campaign for most of the same people and I still feel that way.
